The San Diego Chargers started in 1959 along with other AFL teams. They began to play in 1960 in Los Angeles. Owned by Barron Hilton, the Chargers only played one season in L.A. and moved to San Diego the year after. The early years of the Chargers were admirable by the great plays of wide receiver Lance Alworth and coached for ten years by hall of famer Sid Gillman.

The San Diego Chargers won five division championships and a league crown in the AFL and Lance Alworth set a record by catching at least a one pass in 96 games in 1962-1970. In the late 1970s and 1980s, Don Coryell, head coach of the Chargers, experienced one of the most skilled offensive units in the National Football history. John Fouts and wide receiver Charlie Joiner led the San Diego Chargers and they both set career team records with 43,040 passing yards and 254 passing touchdowns with 586 receptions.

The San Diego Chargers finished first on their division last season with an 11-5 record. They have proved that they are a team that can compete in the Super Bowl for the coming years by dominating the AFC West last year. Nearly beating the Patriots for a slot in the Super Bowl, the Chargers are looking forward this coming season.
